My real name is Gillian. Beinel is the name of a characater--based on myself--belonging to a fanfic of LotR that I started writing along side two of my friends in highschool. The name since then has stuck. I was born and continue to live in Canada.

Beinel as an artist
First, a disclaimer. By skimming through some of the art here on deviant art, I can honestly say I do not feel nearly as talented as an artist. However, my "training" and style do differ from others so its hard to compare.

I traditionally like working with a mechanical pencil and white paper. Amature? Maybe, but its also part of my style. Instead of using different types of pencils to shade, I avoid most shading altogether. I've never really liked shading and continue not to. Shading = rules. I hate drawing by rules because it takes away from my freedom and creativity. If I want to add shading then I'll do it my way, which is usually not extensive and isn't heavily based on where my source of light is coming from. Don't get me wrong; if I had the patience for shading, if the pencil didn't smudge so much, and if I didn't have to colour the whole page grey I'd do it more often. I also admire all works that use shading. So that explains the mechanical pencil.

I like to draw people a lot. The way I draw is sort of in the middle of real and cartoonish. I guess I could liken it to the type of stuff you see in the old X-Men comics. Due to the lack of shading I'm what you may call an outline drawer (I don't know the fancy term for that). Back in highschool I did a number of pictures based on my LotR fanfic. I hope to eventually scan them and post them... give everyone an idea of my style.

I also like drawing animals, more specifically horses-- one of my favourite animals.

Recently I have been trying my hand at digital art and sculpting with sculpy. I'd like to think I'm not doing too bad, but everyone has they're own opinion

Anyways, that's just a little background on me. I hope to post more art when I get access to a scanner and digital camera. For now you'll have to deal with my cutesie beginner digital art
